Quanada's Upcoming Events
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Quanada celebrates Domestic Violence Awareness Month each year with several activities intended to promote awareness around victimization and services. This October, Quanada is proud to participate in the following:
-
Annual placard display in the front lawn at 2707 Maine. The placards remain up for the entire month of October and represent the more-than 10,000 victims Quanada has served since 1983.
-
Awareness displays throughout the community.
-
Clergy breakfast on October 8 at Sprouts.
-
Unity in the Community on October 15. Quanada is partnering with the YWCA on this awareness event that will involve participation from the community and area service providers.
-
Clergy domestic violence training at Union United Methodist Church on October 22. Area clergy are sometimes the first people a victim may go to for help.
-
Project 100 on October 22 at Union United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m. Project 100 is an annual event held by Quanada and the Family Violence Coordinating Council. The intent of the project is to get more men involved in supporting Quanada’s efforts to eliminate domestic violence in our community.
Why do these efforts matter? Statistics show that one in every four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. In Crime in Illinois 2006, the Illinois State Police reported 114,921 cases of domestic violence were filed in Illinois. The Quincy Police Department responded to 364 domestic battery reports and 105 domestic violence reports in Fiscal Year 07. The Adams County Sheriff’s Department responded to 62 domestic violence reports for the same time period. And, as a crime, domestic violence tends to go un-reported!
Domestic Violence is a societal problem affecting us right here in our community. The good news is that each of us can be a part of the solution. Contact Quanada today at 222-0069 to see how you can help.
