history of woodland home
In the summer of 1978, concerned staff members from the Community Counseling Center, Family Service Agency, Salvation Army, the Department of Children and Family Services and the United Way met to explore the possibility of providing domestic violence services in the Quincy area. Momentum gained after that initial meeting as the need for this service became evident.
QUANADA received 501c(3) status in April, 1983, and began offering walk-in services to victims of domestic abuse. QUANADA operated from St. Mary’s Hospital and temporary housing was provided on a contractual basis with local hotels. A shelter facility was located in June, 1984, (replacing the use of hotels for housing) in the Woodland Home building, where we continue to operate today. With the addition of funding from the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, QUANADA added a sexual assault program in the late 1980s.
